So, what sort of thing do we sing? TUBBS performs in a variety of forms, including lower voices, upper voices, small groups, quartets and a massive modern a cappella eight-part harmony chorus! Samples will be added below as soon as our revamped recordings are available:

So what's all this about barbershops, then?
Barbershop (learn even more at Barbershop music) is a style of a cappella (singing without instruments) in which the melody is sung by the lead voice, harmonised above (by the tenor) and below (by the bass) and with a baritone getting whatever's left over in the chord!
Most barbershoppers aim for a bottom-heavy sound, and the distinctive barbershop chords are produced by the combination of all four voices. When each part is perfectly in tune and balanced, a fifth “phantom” voice can be heard; that means you're hearing some really good singing
TUBBS was founded as a barbershop quartet, and both our gents' and ladies groups sing traditional barbershop, but there's not a lot of that around for mixed singing, so we also sing modern a cappella from jazz and show tunes to film soundtracks and rock numbers.
We're fortunate to have several people in TUBBS who can re-arrange tunes so that they can be sung in our style, and we also perform stock arrangements. If you're at UoB (studying or just passing through), come and have a sing; if you're not, you might like to come to one of our gigs or even hire us for yours!
